Biography
Jon Schoonover is an avid hunter and fisherman who was raised in southern Illinois. He continues to live there with his wife and two young sons. Jon is a Professor in the Forestry and Wildlife program at a local University. At the university he teaches soil and water conservation courses and is involved with the college bass fishing team and student organizations of the National Wild Turkey Federation and the Quality Deer Management Association. In his spare time, when he's not coyote hunting, Jon does European mounts for local hunters and taxidermists and also participates in bass fishing and bow fishing tournaments.Like most young kids, Jon tagged along with his parents on many hunting, fishing, and camping trips throughout the Midwest. He grew up chasing rabbits, squirrels, quail, and pheasants before graduating to deer and ultimately predators. He first started calling foxes with a Johnny Stewart cassette tape and a handful of mouth calls. As southern Illinois fox numbers declined, partially as a response to an exploding coyote population, Jon shifted his focus to coyotes. Over the years he has experimented with many cassette tape decks, batteries, speakers, cd/mp3 players, and homemade mouth calls to achieve the best sounds and setups. In the end, FOXPRO beat him to the ultimate design and ended up developing many of the highest quality and most versatile electronic game calls to hit the market.
Jon exclusively uses FOXPRO electronic callers, with the FOXPRO SHOCKWAVE paired with a FOXJACK 3 decoy being his top choice. He upgraded from the FOXPRO FURY primarily because of the FOXFUSION feature, which allows him to blend two sounds while controlling the volume of each. Further, FOXMOTION and FOXPITCH gave him the ability to create very unique sound sequences to target the pressured coyotes in the area. He claims, "FOXPRO's Shockwave set the bar beyond the reach of other companies and is backed by unparalleled customer service."
